AK Reserve
BEST Consultants were commissioned to design and document the Electrical and Lift Services for the Basketball Stadium as part of the new sporting facilities being developed at AK Reserve. The development will include construction of the new Basketball Stadium as well as an Athletics Stadium and Rugby Facility. The electrical services provisions for the development included:
- Specialist lighting systems to suit National Sporting Guidelines in addition to TV broadcasting requirements
- Specialist audio systems reflective of the quality of facility being constructed.
Specialist information systems including scoreboards. In addition to the Basketball Stadium, BEST Consultants Pty Ltd were also commissioned to undertake the Masterplan Development of the whole site to encompass Challenge Stadium and new Athletics and Rugby Stadiums. All three of these new facilities will replace the rundown facilities at Perry Lakes. The Basketball Stadium includes eight courts, a 2000 seat showcourt and office space for local Clubs and Basketball WA. Major sporting groups that will utilise the new stadium include:
- Athletics WA
- Basketball WA
- WA Institute of Sport
- Perth Wildcats
- Western Force
- School Groups and Community Sporting Groups
The stadium is located at the north-east end of AK Reserve. Underground parking has also been included on site and much of the existing flora on the site has been protected to allow for the retention of the existing east west bush corridor (which includes Kings Park).
This project will provide world-class basketball facilities for use by the WA Community in an attractive setting. The Basketball Stadium will be due for completion in October 2009.
