Ikea - Vertical Transport
This project is the largest IKEA retail premises in the Southern Hemisphere. It boasts a 40000m2 floor area rising over three levels and a 25000m2 carpark area. The building has two escalators,10 lifts, moving walkway and 5 dock levelers.
The design of the vertical transportation system was unique to the Western Australian market with features such as the first use in WA of heavy duty goods lifts that utilise machine room less motors lift, security and BMS activations.
The lifts have specific requirements for passenger and class C goods duty with interiors that have been designed for movement of bulky goods and trolleys. The use of MRL lifts in this building resulted in significant savings when considering their lower electrical consumption and no need for plant rooms and air conditioning. The lifts requirements from the Client Brief specifically required speed performance and reliability.
The reliability was specifically emphasised as the only way to the first floor entry is via the escalator. Should this escalator not be operational the Clients trade would suffer enormously.
